Gavin Hall: 15 year-old phenom on the links


VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - A 15-year old from the Rochester area is making his debut on the PGA Tour this weekend. Gavin Hall is the youngest person playing in this year's Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Hall is quite the sensation. this high school sophomore is certainly having a summer vacation to remember. Remember when you were 15? you probably working during your summer at the movie theater or at a restaurant. This kid is busy making his debut on the PGA Tour.

Hall is the only amateur in the field of 132 golfers. He didn't have the best first round on Thursday, he shot a 6 over 78. He had a little trouble right at the start with a double bogey on his first hole. He did rally with a birdie at the fifth hole but fell apart on the back nine with bogeys at 12, 14 and a triple bogey on the 13th hole.

Hall said he is learning to control his nerves and expects to have a better round on Friday. The teen does have quite a following, with hundreds of fans coming out to cheer him on. "He's a local kid, you gotta pull for somebody like that in this area and just hope for the best for him," said golf fan Mark Joseph.

"He was driving the ball as well as anybody else," added fan Sam Santino. "It's time to start working on his short game though."

Hall was set to tee off at 1:50 Friday afternoon.
