            Both teams exchanged blows early, but the Pioneers got the better of the Wildcats when Schneider knocked home a rebound past J & W goalie JR Woodward (Picton, Ont. /

Jr. A), who stopped 42 shots total on the evening and earned second star honors. 
            The Pioneers, who lost their ECAC Men’s West Conference opener to nationally-ranked No. 2 Manhattanville 3-1 last night, improved to 3-2 overall on the year.  J & W dropped to 1-2 overall with the loss.  UC out shot the Wildcats 44-32 and earned a 49-23 face off advantage. 

            Freshman forward Nick Kulas (Parma, MI/North Bay) gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead with his first collegiate goal 3:58 into the first period on an assist from sophomore forward Jeff Pappalardi (Delmar/Capital District Selects).  Pappalardi leads the team with six points on three goals and three assists this season. 
            The Wildcats tied the game up at 1-1 when Matt McGilvray (Rochester, NH/

Laconia

Leafs) netted his third goal of the season at 8:20 of the first period.  Adam Frew (Concord, NH/Laconia Leafs) assisted on the goal that beat UC net minder Anthony Luckow (Niantic, CT/

Oswego

). Luckow closed out the day with 30 saves. 
            After a scoreless second period the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead in the third period on a goal from junior forward Colin Kingston (Vail, CO/Springfield Jr. Blues).

skated down the right side past a J & W defender and put a nice wrist shot past Woodward on the lower left side.  Senior captain Tony Wiseman (White Lake, MI/Cleveland) assisted on

Leafs) tied things up at 2-2 on a power-play goal with lees than ten minutes left in the game.  Jacobs’ fourth goal of the season was assisted by McGilvray.
