HCCC Women's Lax Surges Into Regional Final

Sports WKTV

As bad as the first half was for the Herkimer County Community College women's lacrosse team's offense, that's as good as the second half was, as the No. 2-seeded Lady Generals came back to blow out No. 3 Broome in the NJCAA Region III semifinals on Saturday at Wehrum Stadium 14-3.

In the first half, HCCC suffered from what head coach Dianna Ste-Marie overconfidence, as Broome took a 3-1 lead into halftime. But the Lady Generals came back with a vengeance in the second half, outscoring the Lady Hornets 13-0 to pull ahead and pull away.

Korrin Nash led Herkimer with six goals and two assists, while Melissa Brennan added three goals and four assists.

HCCC, now 8-3, advances to face top-seeded Monroe, which blew out No. 4 Mercyhurst 23-2, in the championship Sunday at noon. Herkimer lost its first two games of the season to Monroe, but is 8-1 since.
