Gaithersburgh Gets Best of New Hartford In Blue & Gold Tournament

Sports WKTV

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- As the only local team left with a chance to advance in the Blue & Gold legion baseball tournament on Saturday, New Hartford could not even last a full game. Thanks to a nine-run fourth inning, Maryland's Gaithersburgh won by mercy rule after five innings at Joe Corr Memorial Field, routing New Hartford 12-2.

The game started off as a pitchers' duel between Gaithersburgh's Tyler Clitsch and New Hartford's Chandler Evans, as each allowed only one run after three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, though, everything fell apart for Evans, as Gaithersburgh exploded for six runs before making an out and scoring nine total off Evans and Pat Derrane.

The loss eliminated New Hartford from final four eligibility and clinched a berth for Gaithersburgh. Gaithersburgh will play Guaynabo from Puerto Rico in the first semifinal Sunday at Murnane Field at 9:00 a.m., then an all-New Jersey semifinal will follow at 12:00 between Brooklawn and Haddon Heights. The championship game is at 4:00.
