Smith Stays Perfect In League Play

Sports WKTV

MARCY, N.Y. -- Smith got one step closer to its first undefeated league season since 1991 on Wednesday, trouncing second place Whitestown 11-2 at SUNYIT.
Whitestown had plenty of confidence going into the matchup after winning 12 of its past 13 league games and playing Smith tough in their first meeting, trailing 5-4 before losing 10-4. But Smith owned the game right from the start, jumping on starting pitcher Mike Fasolo for three runs in the first inning, two in the second, and four in the third for a quick 9-0 lead. That was more than enough support for co-ace Joe Melioris, who allowed two runs in six innings.
The victory improves Smith to 16-0 in Oneida County play, leaving two more road games at Parkhurst and Sherrill as the last roadblocks to a perfect league season. Whitestown falls to 12-5.
