Hamilton Wins Tip-off Tournament 85-66 Over Bates

CLINTON, NY -  Harlee Wood '09 scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead Hamilton College to an 85-66 win against visiting Bates College in the championship game of the Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament sponsored by Radisson Hotel-Utica Centre at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Nov. 22. Hamilton (2-0 overall) has won all four of its own Tip-Off Tournaments. The College of Mount St. Vincent edged Wells College 97-92 in the consolation game.

Russ Rosenband '12 came off the bench to pour in 17 points for the Continentals for the second time in as many days. Lance Wilson '11 chipped in 12 and Patrick Sullivan '12 and Tim Shaw '10 added 11 apiece as Hamilton placed five players in double figures in points. The Continentals shot 52 percent from the floor and made half of their 14 three-point attempts. Marshall Hatch '10 and Alex Gallant '11 paced Bates (1-1) with 14 points apiece. Chris Wilson '10 enjoyed a fine all-around game with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists before he fouled out late in the second half. The Bobcats shot just 38 percent from the field.

Hamilton led by just two points at 30-28 with 5:29 left in the first half. The Continentals closed the half with a 14-3 run and took a 44-31 advantage into the break. Shaw scored six points during the run. Bates didn't get its deficit under double digits the entire second half. Mount St. Vincent (1-2) shot out to a 45-33 lead at the half thanks in part to 19 points from Nick DiMaggio '10. DiMaggio finished with a game-high 27. Joe Cooke '09 nailed six three-pointers and ended up with 25 points. Randy Battle '12 scored 17 points and Eric Lastres '10 pulled down nine rebounds and handed out five assists. Wells (1-4) featured five players in double figures in the scoring column. Darrell Bullock '10 led the charge with 24 points and Greg Jones '12 added 13. Craig Gaylord '12 contributed 11 points and six assists. Andre Sawyers '12 recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards while Tony Parker '10 just missed one of his own with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Dolphins scored the first six points and never trailed. After trailing by more than 10 points for most of the game, the Express finally whittled the Mount St. Vincent lead to six points at 91-85 with 1:57 left, but couldn't draw any closer until the last few seconds. Wood was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Hamilton's Rosenband, Bates' Wilson, Mount St. Vincent's Cooke and Wells' Bullock made the all-tournament team.
