V-V-S Boys Pull Away Late In Rematch With Georgetown

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A 19-3 second-half run turned a close game into a clear victory for V-V-S on Saturday night as the Red Devils won their own holiday tournament title 43-34 over Georgetown from Ontario.

Meeting for the third straight year in the championship game, Georgetown slugged its way to an 8-7 lead after the first quarter and the Red Devils slugged back for a 20-19 lead at halftime.  The Rebels opened the third quarter with an 8-2 run to go up 27-22, but V-V-S closed the quarter with an 11-0 run to re-take the lead 33-27.  Georgetown hit a three-pointer to start the final quarter, making it a three-point game, but the Red Devils responded with an 8-0 run for an 11-point lead at 41-30.

Six-foot-10 senior Adam Kemp scored eight of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and racked up 10 rebounds and three blocks to earn the Tournament Most Valuable Player award while Evan Croll added 16 points, five rebounds and three steals.  Chris Pett led Georgetown with 10 points.

The title is V-V-S' second straight and improves the Red Devils to 8-2 overall.  Georgetown drops to 7-9.
