HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer gave its home crowd plenty to cheer about on Monday, pulling away in the fourth quarter to upset league rival and No. 8-ranked Mohawk 73-58.
The game was tight through the first three quarters with Mohawk leading 16-14 after the first, the score tied 30-30 at halftime and Herkimer leading 48-46 after the third. Then the Magicians broke it open, outscoring the Mohicans 25-12 in the fourth thanks in large part to going 15-for-18 at the free throw line.
Herkimer's big men paved the way with Jeff Mlinar getting 19 points and 11 rebounds and Paul Grubner also notching a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. John LeClair led Mohawk with 28 points.
Herkimer is now 4-5 overall but 4-0 in Center State Conference Division I; Mohawk drops to 9-2 (4-1).
