NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New Hartford Spartans took over first place on Wednesday night with the 6-3 win over Cazenovia.
The Spartans got the scoring started in the first on a goal by Alex Fukes. New Harford led 1-0 after one. They took a 2-0 lead on one of Tom Fiorentino's two goals. The Lakers cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Sam Lewis but New Hartford got it right back just a couple minutes later as Clay Whittemore burried a loose puck past J.R. Vecchiarelli to make it 3-1 after two periods.
Cazenovia did once again cut the lead to one goal on a goal by Carter Franz, but that's as close as they got. Mike Zalewski scored in the third for some insurance. He also had two assists. Dan Smith had 24 saves in net for the Spartans while Vecchiarelli stopped 26 shots.
The Spartans improve to 11-3, 6-0 in the league. Cazenovia drops to 10-1-1, 5-1 in the league.
