NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) -  The New Hartford Spartans battled hard and beat a very good Skaneateles team 4-1 on Wednesday night to advance to the Section III, Division II Final. The Spartans will face Corcoran in the final on Sunday at 1pm at the War Memorial in Syracuse.

The Spartans scored in the first on a pass from Mike Zalewski to Tom Fiorentino. That made it 1-0 New Hartford after one. Early in the second, Alex Fukes on a pass from Fiorentino gave the Spartans a 2-0. A few minutes later, the Lakers got on the board and what would be a controversial call. Lex Johnson scored on a rebound, however, the net was off the post. The refs confered and called it a goal. That cut the lead to 2-1.

Late in the second period the Spartans get that goal back. Fiorentino scored just as time expired to give New Hartford a 3-1 lead after two.

Fiorentino would add an empty-netter near the end of the third to seal the deal. Dylan Smith stopped 8 shots in goal. Freshman Trevor Diamond had 33 saves in the loss.
