HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a bitter matchup of junior college men's lacrosse powerhouses, top-ranked Onondaga put on a clinic against No. 3 Herkimer County Community College Saturday with a 22-6 win.
In a rivalry that seemingly just began a few years ago but has heated up quickly, the Generals scored the first goal of the game, tied it 2-2 in the final minute of the first quarter and looked poised to give the Lazers a fight. But after re-taking the lead with five seconds left in the quarter, Onondaga outscored Herkimer 8-0 in the second to blow the game open. HCCC only managed two shots on goal in the quarter, going more than 10 minutes before its first, and the deficit was far too big to make up.
HCCC drops to 7-2 overall while Onondaga improves to 8-0. The Lazers have won seven of the last eight meetings including four straight Region III championship games. Herkimer had won 21 straight titles before that.
