Greater Utica Sports HOF announces class of 2009


UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame has announced the class of 2009 as Peter Destefano, Gerald Gilberti, Joe Leo and Mike Slive.

Peter Destefano - Athletic Director, Cross Country, Wrestling, Football and Track and Field Coach at Utica Free Academy.

Gerald "Jerry" Gilberti - decades of coaching in the Utica City Schools. Over 150 years of combined sports officiating (Soccer, Volleyball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Softball and Track and Field).

Joe Leo - 39 years of coaching basketball (Fulton and Proctor), over 700 games and over 450 wins. Four time City of Utica Amateur Golf Singles Champ, two time City of Utica Best Ball Champ, City of Utica Senior Champ and 25 years as Director of the Utica Youth Golf Program.

Mike Slive - UFA Athlete and Scholar, Commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, instrumental in the operations of the Bowl Championship Series, serves on numerous NCAA Committees and serves on the Board of Directors of the Sports Lawyers Association.

The Hall of Fame ceremonies will be on June 7th at 4pm at the Radisson in Utica.
