Local 18U softball team earns top seed in state tournament

WASHINGTON MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The CNY Shockers softball team swept its way to a top seed in the 18-and-Under Girls Fastpitch State Tournament Saturday at Washington Mills Athletic Park with three wins by a combined score of 16-2.
New Hartford graduate and current Utica College pitcher Haley Butler threw a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over Midnight Mayhem, Proctor's Jen True threw a complete game in a 3-2 victory over Adirondack Diamonds and New Hartford's Stephanie Romanow ended the day with a five-inning perfect game in a 9-0 win over X-Treme from Rome.
CNY Shockers will go for the championship and a berth in the ASA Nationals in Virginia on Sunday. The schedule is as follows with all games being played at Washington Mills Athletic Park:
9:30 a.m. Mid-Hudson Rebels (1-2) vs. Midnight Mayhem (0-3) and Adirondack Diamonds (2-1) vs. X-Treme (0-3)
11:30 a.m. - MHR/MM winner vs. CNY Shockers (3-0) and AD/XT winner vs. Mechanicville Slik Chix (3-0)
2:00 p.m. - Championship
