NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mike Scotellaro had four hits and four RBIs and T.J. Abounader was his usual solid self on the mound as Utica demolished New Hartford 14-4 in a marquee American Legion baseball matchup Monday at Corr Field.
Vin Gaetano got Utica's offense going in the top of the first inning with a two-out, two-run home run off Kris Kalley. New Hartford cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly, but Utica pulled ahead in the second with a four-run rally capped by a three-run Scotellaro home run with two outs. New Hartford again cut the score in half with two runs on an error in the bottom of the frame, but Utica broke the game open in the fourth inning with five runs to go up 11-3.
Utica, the Oneida County League's Gold Division leader, is now 8-1 in league play while New Hartford, in second place in the Blue Division, falls to 7-3.
Scotellaro finished 4-for-5 at the plate while Abounader went the distance on the mound, allowing only two earned runs on eight hits and one walk and striking out five. Kalley allowed 11 runs, all earned, on six hits and six walks in 3.2 innings and struck out six.
