New Hartford boys soccer "defensive" during playoff run

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - As the New Hartford boys soccer team gears up for the state final four, there's just one thing on their minds....defense.

The Spartans face Byram Hills in the Class A state semifinal on Saturday at 9am at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta. New Hartford will surely continue to do what they do best and that is play strong team defense. The Spartans have not allowed a goal since the first half of their second game against Clinton in the regular season. That's seven games without giving up a goal and that includes the playoffs.

"We have a lot of team defense where we all help each other so we'll all get back in the play and hustle back to make big defensive plays." says senior Pat Alcott. "We have scrappy forwards and midfielders to get goals when we need 'em so we can ride on our defense and get goals from wherever our players attack."

New Hartford defeated Massena 1-0 to advance to the semifinals. It's their first trip to the final four since 2004 when they were named co-state champions.
