NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - As usual, it was a battle to the finish as the New Hartford Spartans beat Clinton 4-3 at the Rec Center on Wednesday night. Jason Fitzgerald had two goals in the win for the Spartans who improved to 3-1, 2-0 in the league.
Clinton started the scoring off midway through the first period on a power play goal from Will Blazer. Just a few minutes later, the Spartans tied it on a goal by Clayton Whittemore. The with under a minute to go in the period, Alex Fukes set up Jason Fitzgerald for a sweet backhanded goal to give New Hartford a 2-1 lead after one period of play.
In the second period, the Warriors tied the game on a Tim Waters goal. However, in the third, the Spartans scored two quick goals, one from Jason Fitzgerald the other from Nick Dicrisci to take a 4-2 lead. The Warriors would add one more from Connor Elsenbeck but it would not be enough despite the fact that the Spartans had six penalties against them in the third.
Devin Grabski and Spencer Landry each had 20 saves. Clinton drops to 1-2 overall, 0-2 in the league.
