Marauders boys basketball generating a buzz

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Expectations are high at New York Mills, where the boys basketball team has taken the court for another year. The Marauders are hoping to make a deep run in this year's postseason.

"There's a great tradition of winning here. They've done well for many years, the coaches before me were great coaches and won a lot of games and we seem to always seem to be in the top 1 or 2 of our league," says head coach Mike Adey.
"Our coach always tells us, all the teams we're going to be the one to get this year, we're not sneaking up on anyone now. And the community I'm sure is looking forward to seeing us go far, and it's going to be exciting," says senior guard Matt Dziekan.

Last season, the Marauders won their third Section title in the last five years. But this season, the team has a loftier goal in mind.
"As we lost in the Regionals I think we all want to at least get back there. It was a heartbreaking loss getting that far, getting that close to Glens Falls," says junior big man Fred Russ.

"We think we can do a lot of things, but we can be. Hopefully that's going to be the first part of March in Glens Falls," says Adey.
In order to reach their goals, the Marauders will have to rely on experience, with 8 of their 9 players from last year's section title team back.

"Us seniors, we've been talking about this since 7th grade, since we've all been together. Can't wait till our senior year, we're going to be so good. We just got to stay focused, it's our last chance. Even the younger kids on the team are looking forward to this," says senior guard Ed Schulze.

"We got our work to do, you can't just go out and say we're supposed to win it, we got to go out and win it. that's the way it is in sports," says Adey.

With experience on their side, the Marauders are hoping to leave a lasting impression this season. They already won their season opener, 66-43 Wednesday at Hamilton and head to Glens Falls to play in a tournament Friday and Saturday.
