Adrean rode small-ball to a six-run second inning, then held on against New Hartford for an 8-5 win on the second day of the District V Legion Tournament at DeLutis Field in Rome.

Adrean used several singles and two squeeze plays to go up 6-0 in the second inning, and increased the lead to 7-0 in the fifth. Starting pitcher Kyle Tolman was no-hitting New Hartford at that point, but Joe Betar broke it up with a clean single with one out in the bottom of the inning. After an error, another single, and another error made it 7-1 and loaded the bases, Marc Montesano cleared them with a double, cutting the score to 7-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, New Hartford had the makings of a big rally in place, but Adrean's defense shut it down. With Joe Desens on first and no outs, Joe Carcone hit a deep drive to the gap in left-center. But centerfielder Jason Simone tracked it down, robbing Carcone with a full-out diving catch, then doubled off Desens, who was already on his way to third base when the ball was caught. New Hartford would rally to score a run, getting within 7-5, but that's as close as they could get. Simone got the run back for Adrean in the top of the eighth with a leadoff home run. Adrean finished with 18 hits in the game.

Adrean (2-0 in the double-elimination tournament) advances to play Whitestown (2-0) in the winners' bracket Friday at 7:00 at DeLutis Field. Whitestown trailed Brockville 5-3 going into the top of the 9th inning, but Andy Starczewski hit a two-run home run to spark a three-run, game-winning rally.

Meanwhile, New Hartford was forced to play right away again in an elimination game against Sackets Harbor, but the doubleheader evidently did not hurt, as New Hartford (1-1) pounded Sackets (0-2) 24-2. New Hartford advances to play Brockville (1-1), which also survived a second straight game with a 20-10 win over Ilion (0-2), Friday at 4:00.
