UTICA, NY - The Utica College men’s lacrosse team lost to visiting Stevens Institute of Technology 11-3 in the Empire 8 Conference opener for both squads Saturday afternoon. Senior attack Michael Bulger posted three points on one goal and two assists, while Travis Wright stopped 23 shots and scooped up eight ground balls in net for the Pioneers.

Stevens jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter behind two goals from Alex Hofrichter in the first four minutes, followed by one goal apiece from Kevin Rose, Joey Simone and Brandon Faubert. Faubert’s tenth goal of the season came with just five seconds to go in the opening quarter.

The Ducks opened the second quarter with three straight goals to take a commanding 8-0 lead with 9:41 to go in the half. Hofrichter added his third goal of the game, and 15th of the season, to cap the Stevens first half scoring.

The Pioneers were able to hold the Ducks to just three goals in the final 30 minutes, but they could only muster two of their own as they lost the eight goal decision.
