Baseball Hall of Fame announces changes to awards for Induction Weekend

By MIKE LEVIN

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced some changes Tuesday for Induction Weekend next July, with a new Saturday lineup for the winners of the "Frick and Spink Awards."

The awards for Broadcasting and Writing will now be held at Doubleday Field on Saturday, July 23 at 4:30 p.m. and will be free to the public.

Hall of Famers will also participate in discussions and interactive fan sessions all day leading up to the new ceremony, which will give added attention to the winners, as well as the historic field.

"The awards presentation works on so many levels," said Hall President Jeff Idelson. "First, it gives the awardees their own spotlight, a spotlight they deserve. We create a new marquee downtown event to keep foot traffic on Main Street. And we develop a new and refreshed program to attract new audiences to Cooperstown."

This year's Frick winner is Dave Van Horne and the Spink will go to Bill Conlin.
