Carrier Dome assists Metrodome after roof collapse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Just a day after the Metrodome in Minneapolis collapsed, the Carrier Dome in Syracuse sent help.
It was around 5 a.m. Sunday after a heavy storm, that 17 inches of snow caused panels on the teflon-coated fiberglass to rupture. The dome then deflated as snow poured onto the field. Central New York is, of course, no stranger to snow storms, and Syracuse University happens to have the same inflatable roof. Carrier Dome Manager Pete Sala is ready and willing to help. "We're in the process of shipping, if they need it, a piece of fabric to help repair the roof. I just had a conversation with Dave Richie from Burt Air about ten minutes ago and we've pulled the piece out and have it ready to be shipped." Sala is always thinking ahead. He says that if a snow storm is approaching, the Carrier Dome starts heating its roof a day and a half before. If that doesn't work, people actually go on the roof to fight the snow as it comes. The New York Giants were supposed to play the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome. That game is now taking place Monday night in Detroit. |
