UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The waiting is almost over for eager Utica Comets fans, as the team released the complete schedule for its first season in the American Hockey League, Thursday.

The team will begin its first quest for the Calder Cup when it kicks off the season on October 11, against the Rochester Americans, at 7:05 p.m., on the road.

Then, after a three-game road trip, the Comets will take to Aud ice for the first time on October 23, as the local rivalries begin, when the Albany Devils come into town, followed by the 2012 Eastern Conference Champion, Syracuse Crunch, on the 25th.

Weekend games will be the common theme at the Utica Memorial Auditorium this year, as the team announced 16 Friday night home games, and 8 on Saturdays.

The new addition to the league will enjoy the most diverse schedule in the AHL this year, as the Comets will host 18 different opponents, giving Utica fans the chance to see a wide range of what league has to offer.

The team will compete in the North Division of the Western Conference this year, and will play 28 divisional games, in addition to 54 total games within the conference.

The Abbotsford Heat, the Calgary Flames' affiliate who were originally rumored to be Utica's potential team, will be its most frequent opponent, as the Comets will face them 12 times throughout the year.

With the season inching closer by the day, the Comets still have season ticket packages available by calling (315)790-9070. The team announced, Thursday, that partial season ticket plans will be released on Monday (Aug. 26).
