Classic Weekend will feature a slate of family friendly activities, highlighted by the return of the Hall of Fame Classic, a seven-inning exhibition game featuring seven Hall of Famers and 20 other retired major league stars, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 20. Other activities planned for Classic Weekend include a Hall of Fame Golf tournament fundraiser for the Museum, a reprise of the popular “Family Catch,” the Youth Skills Clinic hosted by several former major league players, a special Voices of the Game program, and other special programs throughout the Museum.
"We took the successes of the 2009 Hall of Fame Classic and built upon them to make this year's legends game even more entertaining," said Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson. "We're excited about the meaningful lineup of family events we have put in place to assure generations of families who spend Father's Day Weekend in Cooperstown will have a very special experience."
Hall of Famers Gary Carter, Bob Feller, Rollie Fingers, Goose Gossage, Harmon Killebrew, Phil Niekro and Mike Schmidt will headline the Hall of Fame Classic, with preliminary rosters of more than 20 other former major leaguers to be announced around Opening Day of the 2010 baseball season. The 2010 Hall of Fame Classic will be staged in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
"The inaugural Hall of Fame Classic was the start of a new tradition in Cooperstown, for the fans, the players, the Hall of Fame and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association," said Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, who also serves as President of the MLBPAA and on the Board of Directors for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. "Once again in 2010, we are looking forward to another great Father's Day event in Cooperstown, where the game's legends will give fans a chance to relieve their childhood memories at Doubleday Field."
The 2010 Hall of Fame Classic will once again be presented by Ford Motor Company, who was the game’s presenting sponsor for the inaugural event in 2009.
“Ford Motor Company is once again pleased to support the Baseball Hall of Fame Classic,” said Jim Vella, President of the Ford Community Fund. “Cooperstown is deeply rooted in American history as the spiritual home of baseball, and that was never more evident than last Father’s Day for the Classic. Baseball at Doubleday Field with legends from the National Pastime captures the best of Americana and the ideal event for the ultimate Father’s Day Weekend.”
