Wounded veterans complete two-day curling camp
WHITESTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Eight wounded veterans headed home Monday following two days of throwing rocks at the Utica Curling Club.
The out-of-state vets were welcomed to town by the Sitrin Stars as they began their two day education of the sport of wheelchair curling. The goal is to give these 20 and 30 somethings hope for a new life. Local Olympians coached them on the sport, as well on how to set goals. "We want to see those individuals improve their quality of life," said Marc DePerno of the Sitrin Stars. "They've represented their country in one format and we're hoping they can do it once again in a different format - that would be in the sport of wheelchair curling." DePerno is the director of the Sitrin Stars, but he is also the National Director of Outreach for wheelchair curling in the United States. |
