Elmira woman charged in death of infant daughter

ELMIRA, N.Y. (AP) - A 23-year-old Elmira woman has been charged
in connection with the death of her infant daughter.

Summer Cook was arraigned last night on a second-degree murder
charge in the death of six-week-old Kenya Payne.

Elmira police say officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child early yesterday morning. Officers found that the baby wasn't breathing and she was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Cook is being held in Chemung County Jail.
