ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Eliot Spitzer has returned a 50,000 dollar contribution to a billionaire recently indicted on a prostitution charge.

He earlier returned another 50-thousand from a businessman fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton once called, quote, the "biggest polluter in America."

Experts in campaign fund-raising say returning such donations is becoming more common.

Republican-Conservative candidate for governor John Faso today called on Spitzer to return a donation from New York financier Jeffrey Epstein, who faces a prostitution charge in Florida.

State elections record show the money already had been returned.

One government professor at the University of Maryland says it's wise for a candidate to return donations that are tainted in some way.

And with the Internet, catching such donations is easier now. Most states - including New York - post campaign finance records online.

Spitzer's campaign had 14 million dollars on hand, according to a filing this month.
