More than a dozen people have been arrested in northern New York after police busted up a drug-smuggling operation they say moved millions of dollars worth of marijuana down from Canada.

Authorities say the smugglers include a 54-year-old woman from Malone and her two sons.

Fourteen people have been arrested but authorities say the Canadian man who was the source of the marijuana remains at large.

Authorities in Franklin County say the drug operation smuggled more than four million dollars worth of pot into the US over a 16-month period by stashing the drugs in hidden compartments and hollowed-out fuel tanks in several vehicles.

Officials say the drugs were transported downstate to Albany and other destinations.

Some of the suspects were arraigned last night before a federal magistrate in Plattsburgh. Others face state drug-trafficking charges.
