SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Police are investigating the shooting death of a Syracuse man who was gunned down on a city street over the weekend.

Police say 21-year-old Silas "Keith" Collier had just dropped a woman off at a house on the city's south side when he was shot just before midnight Saturday night. The woman heard an argument followed by gunshots. She told police she heard banging at her door but didn't answer because she didn't know who was outside.

Police say the banging was likely Collier looking for help. He went back to his van and called 911. Police found him in the passenger seat. Collier was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Syracuse police are asking anyone who may have been with Collier before the shooting, or may have seen what happened, to call them.
