NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month-- experts stress the importance of mammograms and early detection. Now a state of the art facility is available in New Hartford. St. Elizabeth Medical Center is bringing in some new imagining technology to it's new facility called St. Elizabeth Medical Arts.

"We used to have a 16 slice CT scanner, we now have a state of the art 40 slice CT scanner," says St. Elizabeth's Director of Medical Imaging Robert Tan. "It has a capability for bringing lower doses, we also have a new digital X-ray machine which will bring improvements in image quality."

What used to be Marian Medical Imaging at St. Elizabeth Medical Center has moved to Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford. The new CT scan, digital mammography, ultrasound and X-ray equipments are all digital. "Things can be done faster, image quality does improve, but I think the greatest advantage with this machine is our dose reduction capabilities," says Tan. "The equipment is configured with an application called care dose, which controls the amount of X-ray exposure a patient receives according to the thickness of a patient."

The new facility also has a new personalized mammogram technology as well that adjusts pressure to a patient's tissues, creating a more comfortable exam.
