13-year-old alerts family of fire in home in Rome

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two adults and three children were able to make it out of a burning home late Thursday night, thanks to a 13-year-old alerting the family of the fire.

It started at 11:30 pm at 109 West South Street.

When crews arrived on the scene, they say the house was filled with smoke.

We're told the mother of a one-year-old carried the baby out of the house.

Crews from Rome Fire Department had the fire put out in 30 minutes.

The family displaced is staying with friends.

Fire officials tell us its unclear if the smoke detectors in the home were working.
