United Way distributes coats and boots to children in need

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The need for proper winter gear in Central New York is high and that's why the United Way of the Valley and the Greater Utica Area distributed coats and boots to children in need on Wednesday.

Herb Phillipson's Army and Navy Store donates the goods to the United Way each year.

New this year, UW officials reached out to local school districts to find out who needed the items most.

But coats and boots are not the only way you can help out the local community.

Executive Director Brenda Episcopo said, " There are a lot of ways you can help the United Way if you missed this one. We do a diaper drive in the spring, and a school supply drive in the fall... And our general campaign is a way to support these efforts."
