Traffic Alert: Road work on Rt. 5 in Town of Mohawk

(WKTV)- The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) today announced that the NYS Route 5 from Martin Road to the Kateri Shrine in the Town of Mohawk, Montgomery County will be under construction starting Wednesday October 2, 2013.

The road was closed June 26, 2013, due to CSX train derailment. A contractor hired by CSX completed temporary repairs last month. The reconstruction project will make permanent repairs to the 3,100-foot long section of Route 5 damaged by the derailment. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2013.

The Contractor on the project is Rifenburg Construction, Inc. from Troy, New York.

Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the work zones and to pay particular attention to all traffic control devices.

It is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully through all highway and bridge work zones they will encounter during this construction season.
