4.8 earthquake near Ottawa felt in Central New York

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A 4.8 earthquake near Ottawa, Canada was felt as far south as Central New York on Friday.

Residents called NEWSChannel 2 throughout the viewing area with reports of feeling the quake. The USGS confirmed that the 4.8 quake happened at 9:43 a.m. in Braeside, Ontario with another one taking place just ten minutes later registering 4.2.

A magnitude 4.0 eastern earthquake typically can be felt at many places as far as 60 miles from where it occurred, and it infrequently causes damage near its source.

So far there are no reports of any injuries.
