8th graders try out activities at Career and Technical Education Center

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Close to 200 students from throughout the area had the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of different activities at Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Thursday.

It's part of the Career and Technical Education Center's annual 8th grade activity day.

The idea is to introduce students to career training courses offered in high school to prepare them for different job opportunities in Central New York.

Pricipal David Stayton said, "Students can learn marketable skills while earning high school credits. They will still get their English, Math, and Science credits." he said. "All are approved by the State Education Department. It's just an alternative pathway for kids to receive their high school diploma.

Students attended from Utica, Remsen and Waterville School Districts.
