Abandoned building in Rome collapses

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - An abandoned building on Canal Street in Rome collapsed, fire officials said.

The Rome Fire Department received a call at 7:55 a.m. Monday that the roof collapsed and knocked down the back section of an abandoned building at 109 Canal St. Fire crews roped the building off and notified codes.

Officials say the collapse could be weather related, as the weight of the snow on the roof and rain all night could've caused the collapse.

Officials will work with the owner to get the rest of the building torn down. Rome Turney Radiator was at the location about 10 years ago and there have been other short-term businesses in between.
