ONEIDA CASTLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - An 81-year-old man has been taken into custody after a more than nine hour standoff with authorities.

Police say the man, identified by several neighbors as Garth Brink, threatened to take his life and the life of a woman that resides in his home in Oneida Castle.

New York State Police and the Oneida County Sheriff's Department were on on the scene at Seventh Ave at 1 a.m. Monday after receiving a call about a domestic dispute that involved a man with a gun. Law enforcement were unable to enter the home and a stand-off ensued.

Authorities say the woman who had been in the home made it out safely and without injury.

Around 4:30 a.m., neighbors surrounding the home were evacuated after a shot was fired from the home. Sheriff's Office and State Police emergency teams responded to the scene as well as Sheriff's negotiators, who are currently talking with the man and attempting to resolve the matter without further incident.

Route 365, which is also State Street in the Village of Oneida Castle was closed to all but local traffic while authorities negotiated with the Brink.

According to neighbors, Brink has Parkinson's Disease and was often known to be 'sickly.' Many neighbors said they believed that the incident could have been the result of Brink's medications for the Parkinson's.

Brink was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, arraigned in the Town of Floyd Court and sent to Oneida County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

Authorities said that during the investigation at about 4 a.m., Brink's son, Steven L. Brink, 52, of Hamilton arrived on the scene and attempted to push past officers on the scene and approach the residence.

Steven L. Brink was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing Government Administration, and Resisting Arrest. Steven L. Brink was arraigned in the Vernon Court and sent to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
