Blossvale man killed in garbage truck accident

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Blossvale man was killed overnight when the garbage truck he was operating ran him over at the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority on Leland Avenue.

According to Utica Police, 28-year old William Pope was working for Bliss Environmental Services from Rome. He was empyting his truck and realized he had left the truck in gear. He attempted to get back into the truck and fell between the truck and a building, landing under the truck which ran him over. Rescue crews responded and were able to free Pope, who was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

An exact cause of death has not been determined yet.
