Cooperstown man accused of assaulting girlfriend during argument

MILFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Cooperstown man has been charged following a dispute in Milford.

According to the New York State Police, William H. Fort, 47, of Cooperstown has been charged with third-degree assault.

Authorities say he a verbal argument with his girlfriend at her Milford house had escalated and in the course of the dispute, Fort slapped her in the face and punched her in the rib cage.

She claims this isn't the first time he has hurt her and that she did not report this latest incident immediately.

He was arraigned at the Town of Milford Court and sent to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
