Fairfield Suites Inn coming to Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Town officials gathered on Monday to announce the construction of The Fairfield Suites Inn, the third hotel within three years, located on North Genesee Street in Utica.

Mayor Robert Palimeri said Utica has become a destination area.

"This is the rebirth of North Utica and our harbor but also the continuation of economic growth in our city of Utica."

Rakesh Patel, President of Operations at Visions Hotels said they picked the hotel's location based off restaurants and businesses down town.

"All the different attractions, businesses that bring the people to Utica are all reasons we seek out look for guests and occupants in the area being strong."

Maria Boyer, General Manager of the Hampton in Utica said they have seen a demand and she is looking forward to being part of this instrumental project.

"We see the opportunity for growth there is a demand in market for a quality product and I really think the Marriot, the market can handle it."

All parties involved in this project believe the demand for hotel rooms will rise because of the AHL team coming to Utica.

The hotel will have a modern style with a 79 room occupancy. Some of the amenities include an indoor pool, fitness center and free breakfast.

The hotel is said to break ground sometime this year and be open by July of 2014.
