Fire forces a Uncle's Tavern to temporarily close

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - A fire broke out at Uncle's Tavern in New York Mills shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

Several fire departments responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames quickly. Responders say the occupants living above the bar were able evacuate the building safely and no one was injured.

The Tavern could be closed for up to a week, while repairs are being made.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In a statement from Uncle's Tavern, owner Larry Spetts says, "We want to thank New York Mills Fire Department and police,  also Yorkville, Whitesboro and New Hartford first responders for all their help, we appreciate everyone's concern and we are glad nobody was injured.  We will be closed for a while sorting through things, we will try to keep everyone posted on our Facebook page, and we are very grateful to all those who have supported us over the years and continue to do so."
