Flood damage hampers farm's ability to give back

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Usually at this time of year, Wagner Farms of Rome donates thousands of pounds to food banks across the state.

But not this holiday season.

The farm was hit hard by flooding in the spring and lost upward of 80 percent of their crop this year. Not only are they not able to give what they've given in the past, but they can barely make ends meet financially.

"We don't have the ability to pay our operating loans for this year," Ronald Wagner said. "We don't have to ability to set money aside for next year.

"At this point, we are basically covering month-to-month barely."

Mohawk Valley Community Action is now trying to come up ways to help the Wagners, since they always step up and help the agency.
