Free Ice for Flood Victims Sunday afternoon

By WKTV News

MOHAWK, N.Y.(WKTV) Ellen Smith of Mohawk has cleaned up her basement after getting a few inches of water from last week's heavy rains, so now she is focusing all of her attention on helping others not as fortunate.

Smith and her family purchased 400 bags of ice and handed them out on Saturday in the parking lot of the Dollar Store on E. Main St. in Mohawk.

Smith says there are some people in Mohawk who are still without power, mainly because their electric boxes were under water, and she says those homeowners could really use ice while they're at their home during the day cleaning up.

She says the bags of ice went very quickly on Saturday and wanted to thank the Arctic Glacier ice company which pitched in and allowed her to buy the large bags of ice for only $.25 each.

Smith says after her story aired on WKTV on Saturday, she has received calls from local residents to pitch in to buy more ice.

So, Smith and her family will once again be in the Dollar Store parking lot Sunday afternonn from noon until the ice is gone.

Smith says "It's the least I can do."
