Future plans announced for Davis Motel property
By ANDREW DONOVAN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - After some controversy, plans have been announced for the future of the Davis Motel property on Herkimer Road.

The owners, Oneida Housing, announced the property would be repurposed as corporate efficiency apartments, for companies to house employees that need short-term housing.

Many employees need temporary housing if they travel in from out of the area for training, transition or special projects.

The announcement confirms Oneida Housing will not be accepting residency vouchers for the facility, which was a topic of discussion earlier in the week.

Some in the area feared the housing would be paid by Oneida County to temporarily house sex offenders. The state requires Oneida County to find temporary housing for sex offenders once they are released from jail and local hotels are commonly used for that purpose.

The Davis Motel was where owner Linda Turner was murdered in November of 2011 by violent repeat sex offender Robert Blainey.
