Herkimer defeats Sandy Creek 43-14, wins Section III Class D title

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer football team trounced Sandy Creek 43-14 in the Section III Class D Football Final Saturday at the Carrier Dome.  The Magicians were led by defending Sports Express Player of the Year, Austin Mills, who rushed for three touchdowns, and threw for two more.

It's Herkimer's first Sectional title as a member of Class D, and their third straight section title, having won the C-2 title last year and the overall C crown in 2011.

The Magicians scored on the first play of the game, a 63 yard TD pass from Mills to Brennen Thompson, then added a six yard TD run by Mills to make it 14-0.

Sandy Creek would tie the game, but Thompson put Herkimer back on top with a 16 yard touchdown run before the break.

The second half was all Magicians, who advance to the Class D regionals next weekend against Section IV champ Tioga.
