Holland Patent teenager killed in car accident

HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. (WKTV) - Several communities are mourning the loss of a teenager who was killed in a car accident on Friday. Christian Varin, 19, of Holland Patent died as a result of the crash.

NEWSChannel 2 has been making calls to State Police to learn the details of the accident for two days now but we have been told that those are not available at this time. We do know the accident took place early Friday morning and only one vehicle was involved. Friends of Varin tell us that he was on his way to work at the Dunkin Donuts in Barneveld when the crash took place. Friends also tell us he was trying to avoid hitting a deer.

According to his obituary, Christian graduated from Holland Patent Schools in 2012 and he also spent some time in the Mount Markham School District. Varin was attending classes at MVCC and he was a crew member for DeMetro Racing.

Services for Christian will be held this week. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Ilion, 8 Second St., Ilion.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of Christian on Monday, July 29, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion.

In lieu of flowers, the family has kindly asked to consider the Deacon Fund at the First Baptist Church of Ilion or to the Barneveld Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
