Leftover food from Boilermaker post-race party donated to zoo
By NEWSChannel 2 Staff

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A group of lucky animals are getting 207 pounds of fruit thanks to a donation from the Boilermaker.

Following the Boilermaker post-race party, lots of bananas and oranges remained and since the fruit is cut-up, it can't be used for human consumption. So, the Boilermaker decided to give it to the animals at the zoo.

The donation also supports the zoo's mantra of sustainability.

"Sustainability, recycling, conservation, any opportunity to educate on any of those entities, that's our mission statement and we're really grateful for this partnership with the Boilermaker," said Andria Heath of the Utica Zoo.

Five bags of ice were also donated.
