HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) -- Michael Fritts spent years as a truck driver. Now, he feels...
"A little bit like Batman," he said, laughing.
And possibly a world record holder for making the first solo drive from New York City to Miami and back in an all electric vehicle, making the trip in 58 hours and 15 minutes.
"People who know me they are no longer surprised by the things I do let's put it that way," said Fritts.
We got a close look at his Tesla, which barely purrs to life when you turn it on. Most car enthusiasts like showing off the engine and Fritts was no different.Where is it?," he says laughing as he opens the hood, revealing nothing inside. "I left all my money behind, I left my wallet, credit card, everything behind. All I had with me was my driver's license and a cooler full of food," he said.
But, it was more than that. Ten years ago this week he had an aneurysm and underwent surgery for a mechanical heart valve.
"I wanted to celebrate the success of that by doing something special and fun and I also wanted to celebrate this wonderful vehicle," he said.
Fritts is sending in an application to the guinness book of world records. but says even if he doesn't become a record breaker, he says the journey was enough.

You just charge and go. Fritts filled up at 10 super charge stations each way, following an interactive map on a large computer screen inside the car.
"At their stations it charges about 150 miles worth of travel in 20 minutes," he said.
Fritts wanted to prove he could make the coastal trip without spending a penny.
