Local store gives back to flood-damaged community

YORKVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local furniture store has decided to give back in a big way to the Mohawk Valley area, ravaged by floods earlier this summer.

Raymour and Flanigan is giving $20,000 worth of gift cards to people of the area, who have been heavily affected by the damaging Floods of 2013.

Store reps gave 200 gift cards worth $100 each to various catholic charities this morning. The cards are not only for residents of Oneida County, but also for all four counties hit hard earlier this year.

The cards will be saved for those who have been struggling to get back into their homes.

"We really hope that this provides support, hope for some of these folks," said Tony Lima, VP of sales at Raymour and Flanigan. "Some people have been really devastated by the floods, we hope it gives some peace of mind for them so they can get back on their feet soon."

In addition to the gift cards, the store will also be holding a food drive at its Utica location to further support the cause.

On September 7th and 8th, if you arrive at the store bearing a nonperishable food item, you will be entitled to a 12% discount on any furniture purchases.

A barbecue also took place during the drive.
