WEBB, N.Y. (WKTV) - An Old Forge man, on probation for a drug-related car crash that killed his sister-in-law in 2008, was killed in a snowmobiling accident in Herkimer County, according to police.

Town of Webb Police tell NEWSChannel 2 that 52-year-old Carl Barcomb was found dead in a snowmobile trail Friday morning.

On Sunday, police released more information about the accident. According to various media outlets, Barcomb crashed after failing to negotiate a turn before colliding with a tree.

Barcomb was convicted in connection with a car crash that killed his sister-in-law, Laura Gribneau. After admitting to smoking marijuana before the crash, he pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

He did not face any jail time for the crime as the victim's family supported a disposition. At the time of the conviction, Gribneau's husband supported Carl Barcomb. At the time, prosecutors say Gribneau's family didn't want Barcomb prosecuted at all.

Barcomb was sentenced to five years probation, which was still in effect when the fatal accident occurred Friday.
