NCAA places Utica College athletics on two year probation

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The NCAA announced a sanction against the Utica College Pioneers, Thursday.

UC athletics has been placed on probation and almost received a two-year postseason ban for providing their Canadian athletes with more financial aid than their other Canadian counterparts, who were not involved in athletics.

The majority of the student-athletes came from the Men's Hockey team, however, not all were from that team.

In the report, the NCAA claimed that Canadian student-athletes were receiving more financial aid than the general Canadian student body, which violates the Canadian International Student Award program.

Utica College reported the infraction themselves, and claims that they corrected the problem two years ago.

They are currently working with the NCAA to ensure that they remain in compliance with the rules in the future.

While the two year postseason ban has not been enforced at this time, the Pioneers will be on probation until August 29, 2015.
